COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Host Lions Club has launched its annual fruit sale using fresh fruit from Florida to raise funds for local charities — including organizations supporting vision and eye health. The sale runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Dec. 21.  KQ2
  • Local shoppers can earn tickets for the Shop St. Joseph holiday program until Monday, Dec. 15 (the final day) to enter a $10K grand prize and a $2,500 bonus for shopping at locally owned businesses, with winners drawn on KQ2.  KQ2
  • MADD is hosting the Saturation Patrol Roll Call today at 6 p.m. at the Buchanan County Sheriff's Office (with 30 officers from five agencies) to help keep roadways safe as victims of impaired driving praise the efforts and officers enjoy grab-and-go meals.  KQ2
  • On Thursday, Dec. 11, United Way honored 28 Leadership St. Joseph graduates by presenting the posthumous Distinguished Leader Award to Carole Dunn, whose decades of service enriched many local organizations. Her daughter accepted the award on her behalf, marking a lasting legacy in community care.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local entertainer Elisabeth Wykert will launch her Dinner Comedy Holiday Spectacular today at Ol’ MacDonalds Farm, with a three-course meal at (6:15 p.m.) and a show from 7 to 9 p.m. Joining her is Kansas City comedian Andrea Caspari Spears, who promises to lift seasonal spirits.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The St. Joseph School District received six candidate filings for two open board seats as filings began Tuesday. Candidates may file at the district offices (1415 North 26th St) during regular hours except from Dec. 23 to 29, with the final filing on Tuesday, Dec. 30 from 3 to 5 p.m.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • The first year of Missouri high school football championships held in St. Joseph proved successful with teams enjoying a championship atmosphere at Spratt Stadium (with nearly full stands and positive feedback). Sports Commission Director Brett Esely said he plans improvements in concessions and security for future events.  St. Joseph Post
  • St. Joseph Christian boys' and girls' basketball teams beat North Harrison on Friday evening, with the girls winning 33-30 and the boys 49-40. Freshman Brooklin Hill and Sophomore Tripp Dunn led their teams, which now prepare for a doubleheader with Tri-County on Tuesday, Dec. 16.  KQ2
