- ➤ Red Cross volunteers have helped Missouri families recover from tornadoes, floods & home fires, and they expect more assistance during the holidays as incidents rise. Donations fund life-saving measures and community training to support those in need. KQ2
- ➤ AFL-CIO Adopt-A-Family Christmas program, in its 42nd year, seeks donations to help local families with essential gifts and funds. Applications are available for pickup or download until 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, with submissions accepted until 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8 at the AFL-CIO office (1203 North 6th Street downtown). EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Friday afternoon, MoWest hosted its Fall Multidisciplinary Research Day at Blum Union, where students showcased research from clinicals, internships and projects — building career-ready skills for future opportunities. KQ2
- ➤ Benton High School’s ProStart class packed 80 meal containers and 250 servings for local families as part of a Friday service project (in partnership with Feeding Kids and Pete’s Garden). Families picked up meals from the back parking lot between 3:30 and 6 p.m. KQ2
- ➤ A Cole County judge ruled in favor of Spencer Toder of Missouri Right to Education after he challenged ballot language for an amendment ensuring quality public education as a fundamental right. The ruling requires the Secretary of State to rewrite the language before Dec. 8. KQ2
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The YMCA LIVESTRONG program offers cancer survivors a free membership + two 90-minute training sessions per week over 12 weeks starting Jan. 5, and only the first 12 participants with a doctor’s release can join. KQ2
