Good morning, Saint Joseph. Here's your local news at a glance for Tuesday, the 2nd of December.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Greater St. Joseph will host a volunteer blitz from December 9 through December 22 (at 118 South 5th Street) to assemble 3,000 meal kits that will provide nutritious food for families facing food insecurity this holiday season. CULTURE NEWS

  • A restored fiddle once played by founder Joseph Robidoux is now the center of a new music exhibit at the Robidoux Row Museum that shows local musical history. The exhibit displays other artifacts like a baton and pump piano — the museum plans future events to let the instrument be heard again.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph Public Works crews salted the roads Monday after 2 inches of snow fell and activated Phase I for winter. Superintendent Jackson Jones said the 14 salt trucks—each dropping 800 lbs per mile—focused on clearing emergency routes so hospitals remained accessible.  KQ2
  • On November 24, the St. Joseph Board of Education reviewed its finances with executive finance director Linda Quinley and noted that enrollment drops had led to lower state revenue. Assistant Superintendent Robert Hedgecorth said the district will use more budget amendments in the future to work with accurate data and avoid a crisis if reserves drop to 3% — a level that would trigger state intervention.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • MINK League team owners gathered last month in Kansas City to plan a special season in 2026 — two teams dropped while the North Missouri Natty’s joined the league, and a second team will be announced later. The league, celebrating its 30th season, will mark historic moments with special events as stated by St. Joseph Mustangs owner and league president Ky Turner.  St. Joseph Post
  • Jordan Helfrey — a teen from St. Joseph — reached the semifinals of the Predator Pro Billiards Series WPA Junior World Championship in Gandia, Spain Monday morning and lost 7-3 to Chinese Taipei’s Ming-Ling Wang after winning her first four matches.  KQ2
