COMMUNITY NEWS

  • ST. JOSEPH—The AFL-CIO Community Services Adopt-A-Family program said it needs more adopters after receiving over 700 applications with 182 families already served. Executive director Nichi Seckinger said if the program reaches over 1,000 families by Christmas Eve, it will need additional adopters, volunteers, and toys—citing economic challenges and a recent government shutdown.  KQ2
  • Jay Kerner hosts his annual guitar giveaway for kids to honor his late friend Nate Carr by collecting quality instruments for aspiring musicians. Kids (ages 10 to 18) can enter the drawing at Lanham Music until 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29 and will pick their own guitar if selected.  KQ2

BUSINESS NEWS

  • D.B’s Coffee truck opened two weeks ago in St. Joseph and now stops at key locations in St. Joseph and Kansas City—owner Dylan Bishop said the teal truck has already been booked for nearly 50 events and plans more stops including Schweitzer’s Orchard this weekend.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The St. Joseph School District said that the tracks at all three high schools remain closed this winter to protect the new surfaces installed in a $6.5 million improvement project and to prevent weather delays. The district plans to reopen the tracks for public walking on March 1—weather permitting.  KQ2
  • After months of waiting, the Saint Joseph School District is moving forward with Plan 4BR that keeps Benton and Central as high schools and changes the feeder patterns for students and staff. Superintendent Ashly McGinnis said clear staffing criteria will be used so that no one faces the transition alone — the district aims to support families and staff through these changes.  KQ2
  • The St. Joseph School District announced that the high school tracks, including the Central High School football field, will remain closed through winter and reopen next March for public use—residents can plan their activities accordingly.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph's City Hall will shine bright tomorrow — its red and green LED lights celebrate the start of the Christmas season, and 14 fixtures were added during recent weeks to help mark ongoing city improvements— including work in time for the hall's 100th anniversary in 2027.  KQ2
  • USPS has announced holiday shipping guidelines—designed to help ensure timely delivery—at its Saint Joseph branch as shoppers prepare for Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. Customers are advised not to wrap packages and should ship via Ground Advantage by Dec. 17, Priority Mail by Dec. 18, and Priority Express by Dec. 20.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • The MINK League has named Clifton Glidewell as commissioner and Bob Coons as deputy commissioner while re-electing Ky Turner and Chris Whitaker as president and vice president. The league will add new teams — including the North Missouri Nattys set to play at Kirksville High School — lose two teams and will release the full 2026 schedule soon.  KQ2
