Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 23rd of November.
Good morning, Saint Joseph.
🏘️ Community
East Hills Shopping Center celebrated its annual tree lighting ceremony this week with a large crowd and special guests such as Miss Hailey Hatley and an Elvis impersonator—a moment that marked the official start of the holiday season for the community.
The brightly lit tree will serve as a holiday landmark, and families can take photos with Santa from Friday November 28 through Christmas Eve.
🎓 Education
High school fans gathered on Friday at MWSU Fieldhouse to enjoy a spirited basketball jamboree amid uncertainty over a plan to convert Lafayette into a middle school.
The school board will vote on the proposal tomorrow at Troester Media Center — a decision that may change school traditions — while students and families keep their focus on the season.
🏈 Sports
The Rock Port Blue Jays are set to advance to the Missouri 8-man football state semifinals for the first time since 2012 after defeating St. Joseph Christian 70-12 Saturday.
The undefeated Blue Jays (12-0) will host Concordia next weekend, and the winner will play for the state title on Dec. 4 at Missouri Western State University.
