COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Joseph Second Harvest Community Food Bank hosted its 15th Annual Turkey Day last Thursday by providing registered community members with Thanksgiving food boxes full of turkey and sides. The food bank expected about 750 participants—leftover food was donated to local schools and campus pantries to support families in need.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • A local film, Chrismystery, shot in St. Joseph and Savannah will be screened at the Trail Theatre at 7 p.m. on Dec. 4. Director Matthew Toronto and actress Kylee Levien will hold a pre-screening meet-and-greet at 6 p.m. — a post-screening Q&A hosted by Bob Schultz and $5 tickets supporting the local museum association add to the event.  KQ2
  • A true crime series hosted by St. Joseph Public Libraries is presenting a talk tonight at 6 p.m. at East Hills Library—Kim Schutte will discuss local criminals Clarence and Juanita Spargur, a subject chosen by downtown library manager Jen Wildhagen to reveal historical insights on these notorious figures.  St. Joseph Post

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Tariffs on imported products are raising prices for items like video games, chocolate, and clothing as the holiday season approaches. Leibowitz Menswear in St. Joseph said rising costs on imported goods are impacting store prices—experts predict most of these extra costs will soon pass on to consumers.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Buchanan County commissioners sent a letter to the St. Joseph Board of Education urging it to stick with its original plan to shift to a two high school model—saying a sudden change to three schools would lead to chaos and impact local population trends. The board will consider the revised plan at its Monday meeting.  St. Joseph Post
  • On Monday, November 24, the St. Joseph School District board will vote on Plan 4BR to split athletic classifications between Benton and Central—Central is projected to have 1,436 9th-11th grade students and Benton about 803, which may change several sports divisions. The proposal would alter MSHSAA classifications if approved.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Missouri State Highway Patrol warned drivers that Thanksgiving week will see heavy traffic with delays expected on Wednesday and Sunday + ongoing road construction may further slow travel. Troopers will operate Operation C.A.R.E. to assist motorists + urge everyone to buckle up and use hands-free phones.  KQ2
