COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Retired Navy fighter pilot Kory Hughs, a native of St. Joseph, flew his F-18 Hornet one final time into Rosencrans Memorial Airport on Friday after a planned fly-in was delayed by a government shutdown. He then made a personal fly-by on Saturday over Meierhoffer to honor his family and visit a friend recovering from heart surgery—demonstrating his continued commitment to the community. KQ2
- ➤ Starting Nov. 29, the City of St. Joseph will offer holiday events downtown that include free carriage rides, festive window displays, a pop-up village and a Downtown Lighting Ceremony. On Dec. 6, Dec. 13 and Dec. 20, events will feature free fire truck rides, photo opportunities with Buddy the Elf and the Grinch, a hunt for a Roaming Snowman, train rides, hayrides, Krampusnacht and a Santa's Petting Zoo with a Pony Express delivering holiday letters. - ➤ The King Hill Restoration and Preservation Association exceeded its goal by repairing 73 obelisks and resetting four large Hawley obelisks at King Hill Cemetery. Volunteers worked with Brooner Construction and Crane on a four-phase process — lifting heavy stone tombstones and removing invasive species to restore the historic cemetery. KQ2
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce announced an Economic Development Summit to support local businesses. The event will feature keynote speaker Dr. Chris Kuehl, and chamber members will pay $40 + nonmembers $60 with lunch included on Dec 3 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Missouri Western State University's Fulkerson Center. - ➤ The St. Joseph School District Board debated a revised high school plan Monday night as Benton High School students supported keeping their school open. Board President LaTonya Williams said a final decision is expected by Nov. 24 and the board will meet again at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow for public comment at Troester Media Center (Plan 2R). KQ2
- ➤ North Central Missouri College received a $1.37 million grant to expand mental health workforce training on its Savannah campus. The grant was awarded by the Health Resources and Services Administration through a partnership with Mosaic Life Care of St. Joseph — the Community Behavioral Health Alliance played a key role in securing the award. - ➤ The St. Joseph School District Board of Education has been debating its high school model since the failed April bond issue brought challenges with declining enrollment, staffing, and funding. Some board members support using Central and Lafayette while others want more changes, and the board will decide on a final plan on Monday, Nov. 24 — a move that will guide the district’s future. KQ2
- ➤ Two Central High School students launched a safe-driving campaign after a car accident in June and visited a middle school to share their story—teaching lessons on buckling up, slowing down, and avoiding phone use—so students learn safe habits. KQ2

- ➤ The City of St. Joseph hosted Student in Government Day at EmPowerU today, where students from five high schools and nine middle schools met in groups to share ideas on homelessness, cleaning the city, and reviving East Hills Mall. City Manager Mike Schumacher said the event lets local youth voice their concerns and will help shape future improvements. KQ2
- ➤ St. Joseph Housing Authority is planning a 30-unit affordable housing project on about 3.5 acres at 2811 S. 36th St. The agency will spend the next six months planning and selecting a developer with hopes to expand the project to 50-60 units as demand grows amid a waiting list of around 400 residents. - ➤ A Wisconsin officer—Capt. Adam Meyers—who recovered from a 2016 incident will speak via Zoom at 6 p.m. Friday at the Glore Psychiatric Museum to share his mental health journey and show how his foundation helps remove stigma surrounding mental health. KQ2

- ➤ The Kansas City Royals announced that local native Noah Cameron is named the team’s 2025 Bruce Rice Pitcher of the Year. He posted a 9-7 record with a 2.99 ERA in 24 starts—leading American League rookies in key statistics. KQ2
