COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Missouri Western student athletes have launched the Griffs Giving Gifts program to collect holiday gifts, and donors can scan a QR code to join the campaign. Holiday preparations are underway in our community. KQ2
- ➤ United Way of Greater St. Joseph ended the public part of its annual fundraising campaign after collecting $2,335,985 with more donations expected. The funds will support programs in 2026—benefiting 16 partner agencies in the region. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ Local businesses and youth hockey families teamed with the St. Joseph Mustangs to launch a food pantry at the red-and-white little house between Bode Ice Arena and Phil Welch Stadium to help residents facing economic hardship—donations are accepted at 2500 Southwest Parkway on an honor system. Mustangs owner Ky Turner said the effort is a practical way to support those in need as tough times continue. KQ2
- ➤ AFL-CIO Community Serves announced that applications for its annual Adopt-A-Family program are open and adopters can sign up starting Friday, Nov. 14 + the program has helped over 96,000 locals over 40 years by providing gifts to children, single adults, and seniors. The agency will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in November, with adjusted hours in December and continues to accept donations of toys and cash. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ As winter weather approaches, the Missouri State Highway Patrol has urged drivers in St Joseph to check local forecasts and prepare their vehicles by inflating tires and ensuring brakes work—motorists should slow down and maintain a safe distance to reduce accident risks. Sgt. Shane Hux said cautious driving on icy roads and near snowplows can help avoid dangerous situations. KQ2
- ➤ Traffic on Walter Welsh Avenue north of City Hall will be reduced to one lane starting Monday, Nov. 10—only the lane closest to City Hall will remain open with ADA parking available. The $190,000 fountain improvement project will demolish the old fountain, regrade the site to boost pedestrian safety, and reinstall the 'No Turning Back' statue with a new fountain by April. KQ2
