COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Krug Park Drive is closed as the park sets up for its annual Holiday Park event. Construction crews will use the drive to move supplies for renovations — the circular drive will remain open for lagoon and lily pond access and the Holiday Lighting Ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on Nov 28.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kids Win Missouri is working with the Community Action Partnership to expand affordable child care in St. Joseph as many families struggle with high costs—Community Relations Director Kayla Marmaud said the program builds leadership for parents and supports a safe, learning environment for children.  KQ2
  • St. Joseph School District has started a new Middle School Scholars program that lets gifted students join weekly experiments (MSS) such as learning what it takes to build a Mars colony. The voluntary program has no grades, tests, or homework and is designed to boost hands-on learning.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • Benton announced Rebecca Bailey as the new head coach for the girls basketball team after Ross Barelli's departure—she had served as assistant coach and the Cardinals finished second last season with a 27-4 record.  KQ2
  • The Civic Arena is hosting the Missouri High School Volleyball State Championship from today through Nov. 8—20 schools from five classes will compete to crown five state champions. Organizers say the three-year tournament has inspired strong local excitement.  KQ2
