COMMUNITY NEWS

  • United Way of Greater St. Joseph held sessions this week where volunteers packed 600 meal kits for SNAP recipients who depend on food aid — the program supports local agencies amid potential SNAP suspensions. The organization will host another volunteer event on Saturday, Nov 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. to pack additional meal kits.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Joseph School District officials plan to cut $8M from the budget over the next two years as reserves remain low—$2.7M in cuts have been approved this fiscal year. The district will reduce staffing through attrition and close Bode Middle and Hyde Elementary to consolidate schools while keeping classroom quality a top priority.  St. Joseph Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph residents will fall back at 2 a.m. on Sunday, November 2, as Daylight Saving Time ends and mornings will get brighter while evenings become darker with a 6:49 a.m. sunrise and 5:15 p.m. sunset; meteorologist Allen Curtis (NWS Kansas City/Pleasant Hill) advised checking smoke alarms and other battery-operated devices when resetting clocks.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • Tri States Wrestling is hosting its second annual King of Missouri Tournament today at 7:00 p.m. at the Good Times Event Center in St. Joseph—eight wrestlers, including AEW's Ace Austin, will compete in seven matches. AEW's Ace Austin will face other wrestlers—aiming to be crowned King of Missouri as fans enjoy multiple bouts.  KQ2
