COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 25th annual Christmas for Kids Toy Drive hosted by JoeTown 107.5's Gregg Lynn will begin Saturday at Eagle Radio studios at 4104 Country Ln in St. Joseph—childcare agencies sent wish lists so listeners can buy toys that the kids want. The drive will run until Black Friday and end with an all-day broadcast to wrap up the event.  St. Joseph Post
  • Independent Tattoo Company is holding its annual 'Toys for Tats' drive today in partnership with the AFL-CIO's Adopt-A-Family program, where customers who bring an unopened toy valued at $20 or more can get discounted flash tattoos for $100 or piercings for $20—no appointment is needed. The drive will continue until December 23 while the shop plans additional themed flash events to brighten the holiday season.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Female students from St. Joseph School District explained that following inspiring women athletes on social media motivates them to work hard in school and sports—citing role models like Alex Pfieffer, Caitlin Clark and Simone Biles as examples of how girls can overcome challenges. They believe these profiles help them see real success and spark their own dreams.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Saturday begins St. Joseph’s second open burning period of November, when residents may burn yard waste only in 55-gallon containers with fires kept 15 feet away from buildings. The St. Joseph Health Department advises keeping water or a fire extinguisher nearby - an adult must monitor the fire at all times while burning continues until the end of November if weather permits.  St. Joseph Post
  • On Tuesday, National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill held its annual Integrated Warning Team meeting in Lee's Summit with emergency managers and media to review hazardous weather messaging and lessons from past events—such as an ice storm and tornadoes—for planning safety measures during the 2026 World Cup matches. Meteorologists discussed tailoring advisories for summer heat and severe storms while coordinating with local partners to improve public safety.  KQ2
  • St. Joseph Transit announced that starting November 3 the eastside transfer station will move from the Hy-Vee parking lot to the new Woodbine Transfer Center — located east of the East Hills Library on Woodbine Road near Faraon Street. Routes 3 and 4 will continue serving Hy-Vee during the relocation.  KQ2
