COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Community Blood Center and the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce host a Battle of the Badges blood drive at the St. Joseph Donor Center at 3112 Frederick Avenue from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m.—the friendly contest features local police and fire departments, with the fire department winning last year. The drive continues tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on National First Responders Day.  KQ2
  • Former longtime KFEQ salesman Ken Gabler died at 94. His farewell service is at 1 p.m. today at Ashland United Methodist Church—interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  St. Joseph Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Benedictine College is holding a nationwide search for an Associate Dean of Pre-Clinical Curriculum for its proposed School of Osteopathic Medicine—this role will design and manage first- and second-year medical courses as part of the accreditation process.  St. Joseph Post
  • The St. Joseph School District Board of Education chose Plan E to keep three high schools during a Monday night meeting — the board directed administrators to make the plan fiscally responsible and will review details at meetings on November 10th, 17th and vote on a final plan on November 24th.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • County officials say work is progressing on the Buchanan County fairground as dirt work is complete — with the north footing, north wall, and most of the east wall poured; they are also discussing a move for the extension office to boost 4H programs before an operating budget is set.  St. Joseph Post
  • The St. Joseph Police Department (SJPD) shared Halloween safety tips, advising guardians to keep children in sight and choose well-lit houses for trick-or-treating (6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.) while officers plan to patrol the streets.  KQ2
