COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual zombie crawl benefiting Friends of the Animal Shelter will start at 5 p.m. Saturday at D&G Pub House in downtown St. Joseph—tickets must be purchased to manage the parade route. Participants will enjoy giveaways, a costume contest, raffle prizes, and drink specials — all while supporting the shelter.  St. Joseph Post
  • Arby’s is hosting a food drive at its two St. Joseph locations through October 26th—donors receive a free roast beef sandwich with their contribution. The initiative, led by The Flynn Group in partnership with Harvesters, marks the first collaboration to help local nonprofits.  KQ2
  • The local Uncle Fester's Closet at Rolling Hills Library Belt Branch will invite children—together with their guardians—to select new Halloween costumes on Saturday, October 18 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The branch will also accept costume donations at its 1904 North Belt Highway location.  KQ2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Drivers in St. Joseph need to slow down and be alert for deer as harvest season continues amid rising deer-related accidents. Missouri Highway Patrol reports 259 such incidents last year including one fatal crash — they advise reducing speed and pulling over if a collision occurs.  KQ2

  • Purina celebrated its 40th anniversary in St. Joseph at Hyde Park with family activities, local food vendors, and live music while honoring 11 workers who have been with the company since it opened in 1985 — the factory now employs over 300 people and continues to grow with various positions available.  St. Joseph Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Residents in St. Joseph are invited to be extras for the movie 'Behind Closed Curtains' at the Missouri Theatre on October 24, where local extras will help create a genuine atmosphere during filming. Director Alec Huggins said the production benefits from the state film tax credit and local support—an opportunity that showcases authentic Midwest filmmaking.  St. Joseph Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Missouri Western State University hosted the Missouri Court of Appeals on Tuesday to let the public see how judges decide cases—students attended the live hearing to learn about trial errors and the judicial process.
