Good morning, Saint Joseph.
The St. Joseph Parks, Recreation, and Civic Facilities Department invites community members to share input on the John Lucas Enhancement Project at a park board meeting on Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the parks administration building on 1920 Grand Avenue, and the comments will help guide plans to secure a state grant for improvements to the playground and shelter house.
Local businesses can register for the Shop St. Joseph Holiday Program, which will run from November 12 to December 15 (offering shoppers one free ticket and additional tickets for every $10 spent with pricing based on employee count).
The program will award a $10,000 grand prize and a $2,500 bonus drawing on December 17 while also featuring second-chance prizes.
Christian Mengel from the St. Joseph Convention and Visitors Bureau received the Film Industry Champion Award from the Missouri Division of Tourism and said he feels a strong duty to help local filmmakers.
He recalled that local residents opened their homes to support film projects—an effort that boosts St. Joseph's growing film scene.
Seven Missouri Head Start centers will use nearly $2 million in federal grants to upgrade kitchens, build community gardens, and add bulk cooking lessons to fight rising food insecurity.
In St. Joseph, funds will build a new demonstration kitchen (letting local partners teach affordable cooking skills) and expand nutrition education programs.
State funding to Missouri’s MOScholars K-12 voucher program was almost entirely used for religious schools in August—98% of the 2,329 scholarships went to institutions like Catholic, Christian, Jewish and Islamic schools.
