COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Friends of the St. Joseph Public Library will hold a book sale later this month at the Downtown Library starting with a Friends Only Preview Sale on October 18th from 9 to 10 a.m. then opening to the public at 10 a.m. and continuing with full-day sessions on October 19th and 20th plus a half-price day on October 21st. On October 22nd a bag and box day will offer books at $5 per bag or $10 per box—non-profit organizations and teachers will receive books for free from 2 to 6 p.m. KQ2
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney’s office is partnering with the St. Joseph School District to fight rising truancy since the COVID pandemic as the district struggles to reach a 90% attendance goal. Prosecuting Attorney Michelle Davidson said her office will use a state law to contact parents when children miss school—helping fix issues before prosecution is needed. St. Joseph Post
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Renovations are coming to Civic Center Park near City Hall as demolition on the No Turning Back statue site begins this fall—crews will clean the statue base, lower the grade to ease traffic, and remove the open water while planning to return the freshly re-waxed monument with a working fountain in the spring. The project costs $190,000. KQ2
- ➤ LaTonya Williams, school board president and executive director of the Bartlett Center, announced her bid for the Missouri House and said she will run a grassroots campaign to improve education, health care, jobs, and safety — her district covers the heart of St. Joseph and extends to Rosecrans Memorial Airport. - ➤ The Pattonsburg Panthers have been named KQ2’s Anderson Auto Group Team of the Week after defeating King City 58-42 in a Grand River Conference matchup of two undefeated teams — their win improved their record to 6-0 and moved them to 8th in the Missouri 8-Man Football Media poll. They will visit St. Joseph Christian next week. KQ2
