COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The iconic castle at Krug Park is closed while renovations rebuild the restrooms, seating, and interior with new bathrooms, concessions and dressing rooms—work that will take two years and cost $11.75 million from a half-cent parks tax approved in 2021. The renovation project is progressing in multiple phases with external wall work already underway.  KQ2
  • Kenneth Rodriguez and Kristin Contreras started The Unforgotten Project in St. Joseph to help people facing homelessness and drug addiction—its Unforgotten Boxes will hold Narcan, Naloxone and local resource information. The group will soon call for donations of old newspaper boxes—aiming to turn them into free resource stations that may reduce overdoses.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lindbergh Elementary welcomes volunteers to read to 2nd grade students every Wednesday from October 8 through December 17—volunteers must attend onboarding on October 1 at 10:40 a.m.  St. Joseph Post
  • Dr. Marvin O. Looney, the first president of MoWest, died Sept. 29 in Mountain Home—he was 97 years old. He helped shape the university in St. Joseph by establishing its four-year status and building its campus.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Bishop LeBlond Eagles celebrated Senior Night with a 9-7 win over the Maryville Spoofhounds at Heritage Park Tuesday evening. Senior Marah Rocha pitched seven innings and drove in three runs.  KQ2
  • The Mid-Buchanan Dragons were named KQ2's Anderson Auto Group Team of the Week after defeating Lawson 35–21 in Week 5; they are 5–0 and will host Lathrop on Friday night—boosting their season as the third-ranked team in Class 2.  KQ2
  • Two local high school cheerleading teams from Central and Savannah won Missouri Cheerleading Coaches Association regional championships over the weekend; Central High School claimed the 5A Small title + Savannah captured the Small Coed 1A-3A championship.  KQ2
  • Today’s KQ2 Sports Podcast Episode 5 has Anthony Crane interviewing News Director Chris Roush in St. Joseph and Roush has led the news team since October 2023 after serving five years as Sports Director since he joined KQ2 in November 2015.  KQ2
