- ➤ Diana Anatol celebrated the two-year anniversary of Cafe Belle Epoque ownership by hosting a wine tasting event last Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Maison du Vin—an historic mansion on Clay Street turned private event space that offers the same French menu and service as her cafe. KQ2

- ➤ On Friday, Eugene Field Elementary completed The Wax Museum project, where sixth-graders showed their knowledge of past and present icons through essays, posters and costumes while giving speeches in the gym—teacher Kaitlyn Poage said the activity helped them learn research skills. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Missouri public safety laws to protect children went into effect at the end of last month. The updated statutes raise the age thresholds for victim enticement from under 15 to under 17 and for sexual trafficking from under 12 to under 14—while imposing stiffer minimum sentences for those convicted. - ➤ St. Joseph resident Dakota Allen announced their campaign for City Council, emphasizing grassroots organizing and fresh ideas for improving housing safety, public transportation and celebrating diversity — they plan to gather signatures and speak with voters ahead of the election. - ➤ The Missouri Department of Transportation will work with Herzog Contracting Corp to resurface I-229 between Route 371 and I-29 beginning October 2 — crews will work Monday through Saturday during daylight hours while the road narrows to one lane until the project finishes in November. KQ2
- ➤ The St. Joseph League of Women Voters held a forum that let residents hear directly from city officials as they discussed work on city projects and issues like trash hauling and street repairs.
