EDUCATION NEWS

  • At the SJSD Board of Education meeting on September 22, declining enrollment numbers fell below 10,000 as Superintendent Dr. Ashly McGinnis said the board is weighing two feeder school options amid plans to split the district into two high schools. The board will study data on its preferred models and gather community input at a town hall meeting on October 21 — a first step before any final decision is made.  KQ2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Today, the Missouri Department of Conservation said the northwest region has started to change with Sumacs and Walnut trees turning while harder woods like Hickories and Oaks will change later, and Forester Timothy Wolfe expects peak colors around October 20. He suggested local spots such as Bluffwoods Conservation Area + Loess Bluffs for the best views of the fall colors.  St. Joseph Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The League of Women Voters of Northwest Missouri and partners will co-host a St. Joseph City Leaders Forum at Rollings Hills Library Upper Story Room on September 26 at 5:30 p.m., where nine city leaders will share updates and upcoming projects—audience members may submit written questions and enjoy light refreshments.  KQ2
  • St. Joseph Health Department patients received written notices that their personal details might have been compromised in a June 9 data breach—city officials said an investigation concluded on September 4 that a hacker may have accessed data including names, birth dates, and diagnosis details. The city remains committed to helping those affected and advises them to call 1-833-844-5829 for more information.  St. Joseph Post

  • Every Monday, KQ2 highlights top high school sports performers in 11-man football, 8-man football and volleyball and invites coaches to submit their best names by Sunday at 6 p.m. (the list is sponsored by Victory Chevrolet Savannah).  KQ2
  • Benedictine Ravens quarterback Jackson Dooley broke the school record for career passing yards with 7,961 yards during the 45-10 win over Clarke last Saturday — he also set school records for season passing yards and touchdowns.  KQ2
