BUSINESS NEWS

  • Issac Weston, owner of Weston's Custom Rides, is opening his new restaurant The Garage today at 8 A.M.—the venue at 3618 Charles Street will offer dining, live music and comedy shows with a family-friendly touch led by his wife and cousin. Weston hopes the grand opening will bring the community together with good food and a hometown feel.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Safety & Health Council returned with its Safety Acres program at Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church to teach elementary school children about farm hazards such as tractors and grain bins. Donations from the Gary Taylor Charitable Trust & the Harry and Helena Macy Charitable Trust help keep the program free for local students.  KQ2
  • Mosaic Lifecare Foundation announced free Inspire-U memberships to all kindergarten families in the St. Joseph School District thanks to a generous donation from Lowell and Leslie Cruz—membership cards will be sent home and can be redeemed starting September 15 for one year, benefiting over 700 children.  KQ2
  • The Amazonia elementary school PTO is raising money for students and staff by selling raffle tickets for a 1/2 hog from Deep Roots Farm in Andrew County—local farm known for quality products. The PTO has a booth at Tractor Supply in Savannah today from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.—ticket sales are available online through Sept. 30.  KQ2
  • Missouri Western hosts Family Day today with charity and open house events in St. Joseph. Students will build bunk beds for local families as part of Griffs Give Back Day of Service—events include tours of the renovated library and a Griffon football game against Missouri S&T tonight.  St. Joseph Post

SPORTS NEWS

  • Benton High School senior Eliana Arambula recorded her 2,000th career assist during Thursday evening's game against the Cameron Dragons—she reached a major milestone in her school sports career.  KQ2
  • In the third week of high school football, Benton will host Lafayette Friday night at Sparks Field—Benton is 1-1 and Lafayette is 0-2. Highlights and scores will air on Football 2 Night at 10:35 p.m.  KQ2
