COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Donut Dash returns to the streets of St. Joseph this October. The 3.82-mile timed race will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11 at Patee House Museum and finish at Gold-N-Glaze Donuts and Coffee Shop with preregistration at $35 until noon Sept. 26, $45 on race day and $15 for children 12 and under while proceeds benefit Mount Mora, Robidoux Row and Patee House. - ➤ Tomorrow, Northwest Missouri State University will host a stair climb at Bearcat Stadium from 6 to 8 p.m.—displaying tributes through a news ceremony on the scoreboard and tolling bells—while Missouri Western State University holds a similar climb at Spratt Stadium, beginning with check-in at 8 a.m. and a start at 8:46 a.m., with participants carrying a photo of a victim to honor the lives lost on 9/11. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Missouri Western State University’s nursing program was named the best nursing school in Missouri by Registerednursing.org—its small class sizes and 100% first-time pass rate on the NCLEX-RN exam helped earn the honor. The ranking will boost recruitment and highlight the program’s hands-on learning approach. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ The St. Joseph Public Library launched its second annual community reading program on Saturday—selecting Matt Haig's The Midnight Library as this year’s featured novel. The program will offer book discussions, yoga sessions, and other events while most of the 300 printed copies have been distributed and digital options are available. KQ2
- ➤ Cotillion for Achievement, now in its 39th year, is accepting scholarship applications from high school seniors at local schools. Applications due October 17th at 5 p.m. will be scored on academic and extracurricular records—finalists will receive a $1,000 scholarship and attend leadership seminars in January. St. Joseph Post

- ➤ Residents Roger and Carleen Combs report a sinkhole growing behind their home after months of heavy rain and say they have repeatedly called the City of St. Joseph for repairs. The couple remains frustrated as they worry that the gap, which is near a power box, may soon cause a power outage—city officials have yet to provide a clear repair plan. KQ2
- ➤ Mayor John Josendale and councilmembers Madison Davis, Marty Novak, and Randy Schultz + newcomer Collin Clibon collected petitions at City Hall Tuesday and will file them between October 7 and October 28 as they begin their re-election campaigns for next year's municipal election.
