COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A ceremony next week will honor lives lost on September 11 and pay tribute to Vietnam veterans and POWs by featuring speakers like Reverend John Welch of the Missouri Guard, trooper Andy Henry, musician Phil Vandel, and members of Central High School Junior ROTC. The event will also display a memorial wall and include a talk by Captain Guy Gruters—based on the book Faith Conquers Through Courage Tested—with tickets costing $10 for adults and $5 for youth.  St. Joseph Post

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 24-year-old St. Joseph man driving a 2006 Chevy and a 23-year-old Maryville woman in a 2012 Nissan Maxima were injured when the Chevy failed to yield crossing U.S. 71 and the Nissan struck its side, causing both vehicles to skid off the road into a median—Andrew County EMS transported both to Mosaic Life Care.  St. Joseph Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • Latinos Connect celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month publicly for the past three years but will hold a private dinner in October because of fear over safety and cuts to multilingual services — the fundraiser will support community mobility and mental health access for Spanish speakers.  KQ2

ECONOMY NEWS

  • At an economic development session on September 2, the St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce explained that its work attracted $210 million in capital investments, 248 projected jobs, and a 6.3% job growth rate, highlighted by a $2 million sea wall project & Nortian Foodtech’s $22.3 million investment that created 138 jobs. The chamber announced upcoming events including a community leader meeting on September 10, a job fair on September 23, a high school event on October 14 and 15, and an exchange trip to New Braunfels from November 3 to 5.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Monday night, St. Joseph city council member Kenton Randolph passed a resolution to start negotiating the Rosecrans FBO lease with Pan Am Flight Services after Apex Aero stepped down from the bid. Local investor Steven Craig said he will invest in a new hangar—expected to house eight large planes—to boost the city’s tax base and promote future growth.  KQ2

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services partnered with Docket Health Incorporated to launch the Docket app for families in Saint Joseph to access immunization records quickly—parents can add children to the app and use verified details to retrieve safe and up-to-date records. The app works by matching names and contact information to ensure the records come from the state registry.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Joseph athlete Isaac Unruh, who became the first wheelchair user to finish the 5K in 2024, will try to complete a 10K at the St. Joseph Marathon later this month—he plans to push his limits beyond his previous effort.  KQ2
