The St. Joseph Police Department has increased its presence following early break-ins by starting the Shield Check program—officers now leave door hangers that show the check time and officer name to help ease business concerns and offer free security assessments.

Two groups are suing Missouri Secretary of State Denny Hoskins because they say his ballot language misleads voters about proposals to protect public education — his summaries falsely claim the measures would end aid for disabled students and private school support.

Both groups hope to be on the 2026 ballot and ask a judge to correct what they call deceptive wording.
