BUSINESS NEWS

  • St. Joseph Auction and Antique Mart will close its doors on Sept. 3 after 20 years of service and merge with downtown Black Kat Salvage— the combined store will be renamed Black Kat Salvage and Antique and serve customers at 902 Edmond Street.  KQ2

CRIME NEWS

  • On August 23, St. Joseph Police conducted 48 traffic stops during Saturation Saturday—issuing 19 citations, 29 warnings, and making two arrests for DWI along with two for outstanding warrants.  St. Joseph Post

CULTURE NEWS

  • On Saturday, September 6, participating museums in St. Joseph and Savannah will be free to the public; the Pony Express National Museum will offer history re-enactments from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. — the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion is set to host free admission on August 30 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Fire Department has received a $130,000 grant so firefighters will train with the 139th Airlift Wing at Rosecrans Memorial Airport to improve their skills. City Manager Mike Schumacher said the grant will keep them safe and certified — and the city will seek funding for two more years.  St. Joseph Post

HEALTH NEWS

  • Aug. 26 was National Got Checked Day to urge women to have early breast cancer screenings, and Mammography Technologist Teresa Davison said women over 40 should get a yearly exam (one in eight women may get breast cancer) (early detection can lead to a cure without heavy treatments).  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Benedictine Ravens football team was named No.4 in the NAIA Preseason Coaches Poll after a NAIA semifinals run in 2024. They will play #3 Morningside at 1 p.m. Saturday in Atchison then travel to Des Moines to face defending champion Grand View.  KQ2
