ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A Missouri teen was injured after a pickup driven by a 74-year-old man struck his horse and buggy just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday on MO 190 two miles south of Jamesport (the driver was not wearing a seat belt) and Daviess County EMS transported the teen to Children's Mercy. St. Joseph Post
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A St. Joseph man has been charged with one felony count for Unlawful Use of a Weapon after he fired his gun from his vehicle during an August 19 incident over a vehicle dispute tied to a romantic relationship, and he fled from responding officers before being taken into custody at Buchanan County Jail — he has been denied bond. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The UMKC School of Medicine unveiled its new St. Joseph campus after months of anticipation from students, staff and faculty. The campus, built with $14.5 million in funding from Representative Shields and located across from Mosaic Life Care Medical Center, offers state-of-the-art technology to train students for rural health care. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congressman Schmitt said Congress will need to review Medicaid changes that require recipients to seek work or enroll in college—he warned that the adjustments in state-directed payments and the provider tax may hurt rural hospitals that rely on Medicaid funds. St. Joseph Post
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ FDA recommended Walmart recall certain lots of Great Value frozen shrimp sold in Missouri after testing detected trace amounts of Cs-137 in products imported from Indonesian firm PT. Bahari Makmur Sejati, and consumers are advised to discard shrimp from lot codes 8005540-1, 8005538-1, and 8005539-1 with a best by date of March 15 — a measure to lower long-term health risks.
