EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Joseph school department held a rally before classes started to unite community members and staff — officials said the event aimed to boost readiness for the school year. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The city is building a new animal shelter at 3409 S. Belt Highway with about 13,000 square feet of space—designed for more room for adopters and an infirmary for animals. City officials say the shelter will open in June 2026. KQ2
- ➤ At Monday’s City Council work session, Public Works Director Abe Forney introduced Road AI (software that measures potholes, road markings, and sign inventory) to address community concerns about road conditions. The council will review the program in the coming weeks. KQ2
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ The North Andrew Cardinals will open their season at home against the East Atchison Wolves — then travel to Stewartsville in week two. KQ2
- ➤ Kansas City Royals pitcher and local native Noah Cameron attended Commerce Bank’s equipment drive today in St. Joseph to collect baseball and softball gear for Pony Express Baseball and meet fans while honoring his hometown roots. The drive runs through Sept. 30+ donations will support youth teams. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ The annual high school football jamboree returns Friday night at MoWest with Benton, Central, Lafayette and Savannah set to play three-quarter games at Spratt Stadium starting at 7 p.m. Teams will face off in scheduled matchups on the East and West Ends as they prepare for the season. KQ2
