COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pony Express Therapy Dogs made their stop at Hazel’s Coffee on Frederick Ave on August 16 as part of the annual Pancakes and Paws event—Cipher, a therapy dog, made his 400th visit and earned a distinguished title under the AKC. This visit helped bring calm and smiles to local customers.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Writers Guild holds monthly meetings with business sessions and writing workshops that support local writers. The Guild will accept short stories, essays, or poetry for a contest aimed at middle and high school students through February 7.  KQ2

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local law enforcement and the St. Joseph Safety and Health Council are advising parents to limit personal details in their back-to-school social media posts because sharing a child’s last name, grade, or school can help predators track them. Director Frank Till said that keeping such information private will help protect children’s safety—he urged parents to be cautious when posting.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Pattonsburg Panthers will host Platte Valley on Aug. 29 to open the season and will travel to Mound City in week two—launching their 2025 campaign with local excitement.  KQ2
  • The King City Wildkats will host Stewartsville-Osborn on Aug 29 to open their season — they will later travel to DeKalb to face the Tigers.  KQ2
  • St. Joseph Christian will welcome the Nodaway Valley Thunder on August 29 to open the season — and the Lions will travel to East Atchison in week two.  KQ2
