- ➤ On August 11, companies in St. Joseph urged homeowners and contractors to call Missouri 811—damage prevention specialist Tim O'Brien warned that failing to do so could result in hitting electric, gas, or internet lines. KQ2
- ➤ Soles for Christ gave out tennis shoes at the Scottish Rite Temple in St. Joseph — helping children prepare for school. United Way’s Nichi Seckinger said the free shoes ease costs for low-income families — and the program will open again tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. KQ2
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ At the Aug.11 meeting, board members and concerned residents debated school board governance, and LaTonya Williams remained as president—unanimously. Williams said the board will now focus on improving APR scores, finances, and support for staff and students for the new school year. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ After more than a decade of work by the EAA and FAA, the final MOSAIC rule makes it easier for pilots in Saint Joseph to earn their licenses and fly a range of airplanes — including those with up to four seats — by reducing medical and testing requirements. The rule takes effect in October. KQ2
- ➤ The City of St. Joseph with its Parks Department and Missouri Department of Conservation held a ribbon cutting ceremony at Corby Pond to open new ADA compliant restrooms and an adjacent shelter with picnic tables — the facilities will be locked at sunset to deter vandalism and cleaned each morning until they close mid October and reopen mid April — ensuring safe, seasonal access for all users.
