- ➤ Fred Ramsay, a longtime St. Joseph outdoor broadcaster and hunting guide, will be inducted into the Outdoor Hall of Fame at the John A. and Genny Morris Conservation Center in Springfield on Saturday, August 16th—he has spent over 40 years sharing his passion for hunting and fishing with listeners. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Just before 6 p.m. Thursday, a Ford F350 driven by a 37-year-old man from Macon, Georgia collided with a Chevy 2500 on U.S. 59 near 3rd Street in Craig, sending the Chevy off the road into a telephone pole; the Ford driver was taken to Mosaic Life Care while the unbelted Chevy driver was not treated. - ➤ On Thursday just after 5:30 p.m., a 2022 Jeep Cherokee driven by a 28-year-old St. Joseph man failed to stop at a sign and was hit on the passenger side by a 2021 Chevy Silverado driven by a 42-year-old man—three adults and a 1-year-old were hospitalized at Mosaic Life Care. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ An 83-year-old St. Joseph man died in a two-vehicle crash in Andrew County just after 9 a.m. on Thursday when his Chevrolet Colorado made an abrupt left turn into the path of a Cadillac, causing both vehicles to off-road and leaving the Cadillac driver with moderate injuries. KQ2
- ➤ A truck driver lost control while taking the Felix Street exit off I-229 on Thursday at 6:00 p.m.—the rig plunged onto railroad tracks near Main Street in downtown St. Joseph—and he later died despite emergency crews' best efforts. St. Joseph Post
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Monday at 5:30 p.m., the St. Joseph School District Board of Education will hold a work session to address a special meeting requested by board member Kim Miller to reorganize board leadership. The board will follow its policy by notifying members in advance+ stating the meeting's purpose clearly. KQ2
- ➤ A July 28 meeting showed that the district's operating fund ended at (10.02%), far below the 20% policy level, so board president LaTonya Williams is asking for a special third-party audit to guide future decisions. KQ2
- ➤ With the upcoming 2025-26 school year just days away, First Student is preparing bus drivers at St. Joseph School District by providing safety training (15 hours in classroom, 7 hours in skills practice and 15 hours on-road) that helps them handle traffic and protect students. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Grand Avenue and Fillmore Street will be closed at the intersection with St. Joseph Avenue on Wednesday starting at 7 a.m.—crews will begin upgrading the outdated traffic signal system with mast-arm poles and new ADA curb corners. Drivers will follow detours via Savannah Avenue to Highland Avenue for eastbound Fillmore traffic and North 9th Street to Mapleleaf Parkway then Middleton for westbound Grand traffic. KQ2
