- ➤ The Salvation Army staff and volunteers packed backpacks with donated school supplies on Tuesday to help kids in need and will distribute them on Thursday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. & 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Anyone picking up a backpack must show proof of Buchanan County residency along with the required IDs. - ➤ MSHP Troop H reported a strong turnout at National Night Out in St. Joseph and Cameron where officers met community members to build relationships and trust—thanking everyone for coming out. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ Community Recreation & Resocialization is planning a Twilight Prom for individuals with special needs to help them socialize and have fun. The event will be held at Knights of Columbus on Aug. 23 at 1205 N 49th Terrace—staff said the prom will offer dancing, treats, and chances to meet new friends. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Nathan Pare came out of retirement in Kansas City and joined St. Joseph as the new planning and community development director. He started on July 23 and is already working through projects—such as demolishing buildings, processing permits, cleaning properties, and towing cars from lots—to improve the city's operations. KQ2
- ➤ At Monday's meeting, the city council approved a purchase order with McConnell and Associates to build eight new pickleball courts at Corby Grove—replacing the old tennis courts on 22nd street. Parks Director Jeff Atkins said the project will add LED sports lighting, shade structures and a drinking fountain and will be finished next spring for $796,091. KQ2
