- ➤ Habitat for Humanity and the Chamber of Commerce finished the new home at 1520 Moss Street in St. Joseph — new homeowner Shyla Dial, who volunteered over 450 hours to personalize the house for her family, celebrated the event with a ribbon cutting and blessing. This marks the 84th home built in the community — a milestone in providing affordable housing. KQ2
- ➤ The First and Last Chance Tavern in St. Joseph will host a memorial ride on Saturday, August 2 to honor Sierra Sharie Dube and raise funds for Lafayette High School senior Jaymeson Burns through a silent auction, 50/50 raffle, and dunk tank, with sign-ups beginning at 11 a.m. and the ride starting at noon. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Police said a motorcyclist was killed near North Belt Highway and Blackwell Road just before 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday when multiple motorcycles crashed and Tristian Plumley (23) was pronounced dead at Mosaic Life Care. KQ2
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ St. Joseph School District has urged families to enroll by August 1 to help build class schedules and secure bus transportation, and new or incoming Kindergarten, 8th grade, and 12th grade students must have state-required immunizations. Enrollment is open now to ensure every student starts ready to learn. KQ2
- ➤ Crews in St. Joseph are working on turf and track projects at Benton, Central and Lafayette public high schools, with Benton nearly finished, Central facing delays from rain and soft spots, and Lafayette needing extra soil stabilization before its turf installation begins Aug. 18. School officials plan to use alternate sites for early games if Lafayette’s field is not ready by the start of the fall sports season — a step to keep the sports schedule on track. KQ2
