COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, St. Joseph hosts the annual Red Rally at Civic Center Park to welcome the Chiefs back for training camp. The event begins at noon with a pre-rally DJ, a country singer at 1:30 p.m., and a rally at 3 p.m.—it will feature games for children, food vendors, and street closures near the park.  St. Joseph Post
  • Good Times Event Center in St. Joe hosted a fundraiser to help rebuild B&J Skate Center after a fire caused serious damage. The event, called Good Times Carnival, sold $20 wristbands for bounce houses — vendors and family activities and raised hundreds of dollars, while a follow-up charity event, AugustFest, is planned for August 29th–31st.  KQ2
  • Unique Creations Salon LLC in St. Joseph will offer free back-to-school haircuts on August 15 from 10 am to 6 p.m. at 3601 Faraon Street for students in kindergarten through 12th grade served on a first-come, first-served basis.  KQ2
  • The Grace House is holding its annual Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway to provide families in need with backpacks filled with school supplies and fresh clothing, benefiting about 1,200 children each year. The event will continue on Tuesday (6:30 A.M. to approximately 2 P.M.) at 2638 Lafayette Street in St. Joseph.  KQ2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A crash injured a St. Joe woman—her Ford Focus was rear-ended by a Chevy Silverado on U.S. 169 near SW 247th Street just before 8:30 a.m. Saturday—and she was taken to Mosaic Life Care while the pickup driver was unaffected.  St. Joseph Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph is preparing for the centennial of City Hall and the Missouri Theater as local architect Max Guenther detailed the building's history and plans like a war memorial and the Pony Express Statue at the Downtown Public Library on July 26—Historic Preservation Planner Kim Schutte added context on preserving these landmarks—and the next presentation on 1920s architecture is set for October 6 at the Rolling Hills Library Belt Branch. This free event is open to all who want to learn more about our town’s heritage.  KQ2
