COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pony Express Museum hosted a day camp to teach children about life in the 1860s. About 87 kids joined in activities like arts and crafts, a school day simulation, and a petting zoo from Orrick Acres — museum officials said the camp allowed them to explore their creativity.  KQ2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 13-year-old boy riding a KTM SX65 motocross bike was seriously injured when his bike struck a 2021 Toyota Rav4 on SE 32nd Road in Buchanan County Tuesday just after 8 p.m.—EMS took him to Mosaic and then to Children's Mercy for treatment.  St. Joseph Post

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Saint Joseph Symphony announced a new hands-on program for kids called B.A.C.H.—Beginning Adventures in Classical Harmony that uses live music, storytelling, and guided listening to teach music fundamentals. The program will debut on July 31 with a private recital for children associated with the YWCA of St. Joseph and is led by Missouri Western State University faculty member Lorrie Dixon.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Buchanan County emergency services honored paramedic Steve Groshong, who died on November 24th, by dedicating the Steve Groshong Memorial EMS Post at 5010 Frederick Avenue. Executive Director Wallace Patrick said the post will serve as a lasting tribute to Groshong’s work in building local emergency services.  KQ2

HEALTH NEWS

  • St. Joseph Animal Shelter’s Senior Animal Care Specialist Aubrey Couch advised pet owners to watch for signs of heatstroke like heavy panting and drooling and to keep pets cool by providing water and testing pavement temperature—placing the back of your hand on the ground for five seconds to check if it is too hot for safe walks.  KQ2
