ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A mini dirt bike rider was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash in southern Buchanan County Tuesday night—he was ejected from the bike and taken to Mosaic Life Care at the intersection of 32nd Road Southeast and Seymour Road Southeast. KQ2
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Former Savannah police lieutenant Daniel Zeigler pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor for leaving police dog Horus in a hot patrol car on June 20th and was sentenced to a weekend in jail, fined $5,000, and placed on two-year probation (the Missouri State Highway Patrol determined Horus died of heat exhaustion due to a disabled safety feature). GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Buchanan County Gene Field Road Bridge over I-29 will close Monday, July 28 at 6:30 a.m. for deck repairs & reopen by 9 a.m. on Thursday, July 31. A bridge replacement project is planned for 2027 as part of the Statewide Transportation Improvement Program. KQ2
- ➤ Today, Congressman Sam Graves said that the 139th Airlift Wing in St. Joseph continues to fly aging C-130H cargo planes while the 153rd Airlift Wing in Cheyenne will receive new C-130J models—upgrades at Rosecrans, including a new air traffic control tower and runway improvements, did not secure the upgrade and he will keep pushing for future modernization to support the Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center. - ➤ Local caregivers from Vintage Gardens and Home Instead shared their ways of helping seniors with dementia feel comfortable by using activities like music, coloring, and baby doll stations to lower stress levels. - ➤ On July 22, President Mark Donovan spoke at training camp held at Missouri Western State University where the team has trained since 2010 and noted a six-year extension with the university and Mosaic Life Care while he said discussions about renovations to Arrowhead Stadium and a possible team move continue. - ➤ Today the Chiefs began their training camp in St. Joseph at Missouri Western State University—head coach Andy Reid said players must attack practice with urgency. The team secured a four-year $94 million deal for guard Trey Smith and a four-year contract extension for defensive end George Karlaftis—adding key young talent to the roster for the season.
