COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Mustangs game Saturday night at Phil Welch Stadium, fans donated toys and cash to the Gregg Lynn Toy Drive for Kids—donation bins overflowed as the event kicked off a holiday season effort. The drive continues at JoeTown 107.5 studios at 4104 Country Lane where contributions of $5 or a new, unwrapped toy earn a limited-edition Christmas T-shirt.  St. Joseph Post

CRIME NEWS

  • Daniel Zeigler—a former Savannah officer—pleaded guilty to misdemeanor animal abuse for leaving K9 Horus in his car where the dog died from heat exposure in June 2024 and received two years probation, a weekend in jail and a $5,000 fine.  KQ2
  • On July 19, St. Joseph Police's Traffic Unit stopped 53 vehicles and issued 19 citations + 25 warnings after receiving a tip about a planned vehicle side show that involved dangerous driving and illegal stunts.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local architect Max Guenther will discuss the Missouri Theater today at 5:00 p.m. at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum + he will talk about City Hall at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Downtown Library, placing both buildings in historical context before their 100th anniversaries in 2027.  St. Joseph Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City Manager Mike Schumacher said that after a city survey, leaders from several departments prepared a 24-page business plan that they submitted to the city council to improve services. Directors will update the council at each meeting to address concerns over code enforcement, law enforcement, crime, and communications.  St. Joseph Post
  • City Council passed a first reading bill to invest $997,659 in updating the city's technology services. City Manager Mike Schumacher said the upgrade will improve the network infrastructure to meet current and future needs—helping the city keep up with changing demands.  KQ2
  • At Monday night’s city council meeting, St. Joseph approved a resolution to use Triple B Security Services for added security at the 6th and Angelique transit center (a 1-year contract worth $47,211 with an option for up to three more years) pending a final council reading, so police can have more support for loitering issues.  KQ2

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mosaic Life Care is advising fans at the Chiefs training camp today to stay safe during very hot weather by providing misting tents and a cooling tub—staff in blue shirts will help anyone showing signs of heat stress.  KQ2
