- ➤ On Monday morning, more than 100 Vietnam War veterans received pins and certificates for their service at Word of Life Church in St. Joseph, as the City of St. Joseph, the AUSA Henry Leavenworth Chapter — and the St. Joseph Community Alliance honored their sacrifice. Major Gen. Charles Hausman gave a keynote address and recalled the challenges veterans faced when returning home. St. Joseph Post

- ➤ A 28-year-old Savannah man, Steven M. Richardson, was charged with second-degree involuntary manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident after he allegedly drove off St. Joseph Avenue in December 2024—he fled on foot following the pedestrian's death and his bond was set at $25,000. KQ2
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Missouri Western State University and Mosaic Life Care hosted a Nursing Scholars of Promise Signing Event on July 14 to welcome 12 high school students from eight local schools into the nursing program. The students will have two years of tuition paid and four years of employment with Mosaic after graduation to help address local health care shortages. KQ2

- ➤ A Missouri Lottery player in St. Joseph won $50,000 after purchasing a '100X' Scratchers ticket at Casey’s — located at 401 East Hyde Park Avenue — and he said he normally plays the $10 tickets. He and his fiancée have already contacted a loan company as they plan to use the winnings to buy their first home. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Buchanan County Sheriff's Office received a state grant to create a new position aimed at reducing impaired driving. Captain Mike Hess said the grant covers salary and vehicle costs for three years and the role must be operational by October 1 (the decision follows a rise in recent DWI arrests). St. Joseph Post

- ➤ Missouri Western State University announced that all practices at the Kansas City Chiefs Training Camp will require tickets reserved in advance — fans can reserve up to six tickets per practice for a maximum of three sessions, with camp starting July 22 and the first fan practice on July 23. - ➤ Former Mid-Buchanan and Mustangs pitcher Denton Biller was picked by the Baltimore Orioles with pick 484 in the 16th round after a season at Johnson County Community College where he went 10-0 and earned All MINK league honors.
