  • Polished Pretty by Em is celebrating its one-year anniversary at its new store (3843 Frederick Avenue) after four years at its former East Hills Mall location. Owner Emily Gutsmer said the move was challenging, but the shop now thrives with strong local support (reflecting a tight-knit community).  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce is hosting the Educator Externship Program in partnership with the school district to help teachers and counselors learn about career skills by working with local employers. This year, 20 educators will spend time with companies (Boehringer Ingelheim, Altec Industries Inc., Midland Steel, Herzog and Mosaic Life Care) to gain hands-on experience.  KQ2
  • Missouri Western State University is updating its programs so local businesses can get the skilled workers they need—these include both four-year degrees and real-time upskilling courses. Provost Jay Johnson said the university is preparing workers for future changes from new technology like AI, even though predicting those shifts is hard.  St. Joseph Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Mike Kehoe signed bills that cut taxes for long-term capital gains investors and raise vehicle registration fees to help keep local license offices open— the tax break is expected to reduce revenue by about $110 million a year as the fee increase, which boosts charges by 50%, aims to attract more contractors.  St. Joseph Post
  • Buchanan County EMS held a grand opening for a new post near downtown St. Joseph to improve emergency response times. The facility at 701 South Seventh Street features three automatic bay doors and new technology that helps get a truck on the street within 60 to 90 seconds.  KQ2
