COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce is reviving free monthly events for young professionals aged 20 to 40 to help them build networks and friendships in our community — the first meeting is set for July 16th at Parkway Distillery from 6 to 7:30 p.m.  St. Joseph Post

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters responded early Tuesday morning to a fire at the Meadows Apartments on South Leonard Road in St. Joseph that made six apartments uninhabitable + the local Red Cross responded + no injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.  St. Joseph Post
  • On Tuesday at 3:00 a.m., the St. Joseph Fire Department fought a three-alarm fire at the Meadows Apartments on S. Leonard Street that forced over 20 residents to evacuate — firefighters quickly controlled the blaze — and no one was injured.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At Professional Development Day, Pershing Elementary fourth-grade teacher Mary Sanders was surprised by her family and friends when district leaders honored her as one of two Northwest Regional Teacher of the Year honorees—she has taught for 13 years and looks forward to another great year with her students.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The McArthur Drive bridge in St Joseph remains under construction after over a year of work and continues as the only access to the casino and nature center. Public Works Director Abe Forney said contractors are painting the bridge bottom and finishing roadway tie-ins, though progress has delayed the new end-of-July target (the contract could fine them for each day of delay).  KQ2
  • The city council approved $152,300 for the landfill cell 8 project, which was completed on June 30—after delays from heavy rain that increased cleanup work—and now awaits DNR approval within 60-90 days before operations begin.  KQ2

HEALTH NEWS

  • Missouri Rural Health Association said the Big Beautiful Bill will cut Medicaid funding by $5.4 billion and 120,000 Missourians will lose coverage. Toniann Richard from Healthcare Coalition Network is reviewing who will be affected—aiming to guide patients on their next steps before the changes take effect.  KQ2
  • Missouri Rural Health Association projects that at least 120,000 Missourians will lose Medicaid coverage and that funding will drop by $5.4 billion—placing Missouri among the states with the largest cuts. Toniann Richard of the Healthcare Coalition Network said the group is reviewing the bill to find out who will be affected before the changes take place.  KQ2
