Today, the Essig Family McDonald's and Mustangs team up at two North Belt locations from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. to benefit United Way’s 2025 campaign—donating a portion of food and drink sales and offering fans autographs and photo opportunities.

University of Missouri curators toured the UMKC School of Medicine campus in St. Joseph Wednesday afternoon and met at the St. Joseph Country Club today to pledge support for a new dental school on the Missouri Western campus—despite $7 million in funding not being approved.

Superintendent Gabe Edgar ended his time with the school district today and highlighted unresolved issues such as the voters’ rejection of a $157 million bond and the need for school realignment from pre-K through 12.

His tenure also saw both successes and challenges (including a 2023 DUI conviction) that he hopes will guide future changes.

Recent rainfall caused flooding in eastern Buchanan County and county emergency management director Bill Brinton said that roads including SE Saxton Easton Road, SE Mitchell Road, SE 68th Road, Rock Creek Road SE, 80th Road SE, Kemmer Road SE, and NE 85th Road remain closed—forcing residents to seek alternate routes.

The St. Joseph Visitors Bureau is hosting the Chiefs Training Camp for its 15th year, with the camp set to start on July 22 and continue until August 13 (the team chose the city for its tradition, location, and facilities in a new multi-year deal with Missouri Western State University). This event marks another chapter for the Chiefs, who bring recent Super Bowl victory buzz to the local area.
