- ➤ Entrepreneurs and small business owners gathered at East Hills Library at Cup Of Joe this morning to share ideas and receive feedback on improving their businesses. The group meets every Wednesday and will not convene next week while inviting new local entrepreneurs to join. KQ2
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The St. Joseph School District Board of Education asked the administration to review a plan to use Benton and Central as the two high schools after the April bond issue failed—Tom Richmond and Jennifer Kerns proposed the idea during Monday night’s board meeting. Administration will gather information on the two schools to create a consistent feeder pattern for the district. KQ2
- ➤ UMKC Board of Curators previewed the new medical campus in St. Joseph that will open in August. University leaders said the modern building is designed to improve training for students—helping meet the local need for rural healthcare. KQ2
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Two weeks ago, the Buchanan County Commission finished weed spraying on Lake Contrary and observed improvements in the lake’s bed—especially brown cattails with no rain damage—and is now testing the soil for future work like pumping river soil and dredging. Test results are expected mid to late September and, if favorable, restoration efforts will begin early next year. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Noyes Complex Building will close for two weeks beginning July 7 for its new LED lighting at the tennis horseshoe courts — the building's electrical service will be disconnected and realigned during the upgrade — and it will reopen once the work is finished. KQ2

- ➤ Missouri Western State University will host the Kansas City Chiefs training camp this summer for its 15th year under a new multi-year extension.
