- ➤ Today, Second Harvest Community Food Bank kicked off No Hunger Summer, a program that gives free weekday meals to children who rely on school lunches in St. Joseph. The nonprofit, which fed more than 50,000 kids last year (and provides for over 11,000 children every year in Buchanan County), depends on state funding and community donations. KQ2
- ➤ St. Joseph residents rode free on St. Joe Transit on Thursday for Dump the Pump Day—its 19th annual run gave riders, including longtime user Ken McDonald, a chance to access school, work, and sports efficiently. KQ2

- ➤ The St. Joseph Fire Department responded early Thursday morning at a vacant apartment building on the 1600 block of Buchanan Avenue—crews put out the fire without injuries and the cause is yet to be determined. KQ2

- ➤ After moving from Kansas City earlier this year, the St. Joseph Goats sold out their first home opener at Civic Arena and impressed local fans with high-speed arena football — Team President Ted Sweeney praised the unique atmosphere and benefits of the smaller venue. - ➤ The St. Joseph Sports Commission announced a two-day Pony Express State High School Girls Volleyball Preview where 16 teams from across Missouri will compete at Civic Arena. Matches will begin on Friday, August 29 at 2:30 p.m. and the tournament will conclude on Saturday, August 30 with 32 games scheduled & top district champions set to face off. KQ2
- ➤ St. Joseph native Steve Craig purchased majority ownership in the town’s newest sports team, the St. Joseph Goats, on Thursday according to the team. He will join part owner Kendall Randolph and minority owners —including Christian Okoye, Steven St. John and George Gates— as the team prepares to play on Saturday, June 21 at 5:05 p.m. at the Civic Arena in town.
