COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Joseph Pride announced a new fundraiser called The Pride is Right as a spinoff of The Price is Right that will be held at 927 Faraon Street. Doors will open at 6 p.m. June 27 and guests can bid on prizes, enjoy a $20 light dinner, and join in games & a showcase showdown in a family-friendly atmosphere.  KQ2
  • On Thursday night, several friends, co-workers and local groups gathered at Cool Crest Mini-Golf to support InterServ programs. Teams of four played 36 holes and entered a fifty-fifty raffle—funds from the event will support child care and before school and after school programs.  KQ2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 18-year-old male was taken to Mosaic Life Care after his vehicle crashed near South Noyes Boulevard and Renick Street at 9:00 p.m. on June 11th—officials are still investigating the cause.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, the St. Joseph Juneteenth Committee begins its celebration by performing the Pulitzer Prize winning play Our Town at the Missouri Theatre, which runs today through June 15. Director Mike Wilson said the play spotlights social progress and life lessons, and residents have volunteered for weeks (featuring African-American actors to show how far the city has come).  KQ2
  • The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce hosted a free live music event on Southwest Parkway and 28th Street that drew hundreds to watch the Jason and Brandon Duo perform pop songs. The chamber said planning the event was a team effort and announced another concert on July 10th featuring 80s music.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Helen Davis State School is asking the community for donations to build a sensory garden — a safe outdoor area with plants and wildlife — to help students relax and learn; the project, led by the PTO, will depend on private contributions dropped off at 2900 Scott Street.  KQ2
  • The Buchanan County R-IV School District stopped work on its $2 million project after a clerk's error voided the bond funds approved last April. School officials will rerun the same measure on August 5—voters must give a two-thirds vote while the district gathers bids and estimates to plan for improvements.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph Animal Services launched a new online pet licensing system in partnership with DocuPet that lets residents register their pets and upload vaccination and spay/neuter records – the system also checks for existing profiles to avoid duplicate entries.  St. Joseph Post
