COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Regal Hollywood Cinemas begin the K Jo Canned Film Festival to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank by showing family-friendly films for a nonperishable donation or $1 ticket, with Sing 2 and Puss in Boots: The Last Wish playing at 11 a.m. and screenings set for every Tuesday and Wednesday through August 6th—General Manager Mike Glore said the event also features a Mosaic-led activity for kids.  St. Joseph Post
  • Mosaic Life Care staff helped Rachel and Gene Eckert hold their wedding in Glenda’s hospital room when Glenda was hospitalized, ensuring the day went on despite the setback. Family and friends came together in April — and the couple will later honor Glenda with a January anniversary.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Board of Education approved two new administrator appointments for the upcoming school year. Shawna Gilliland will be principal at Benton High School — Brad Spinner will serve as assistant principal at Central High School and both will start on July 1.  KQ2
  • Ilona Savik, a Ukrainian student in a summer exchange program (which includes 500 European students), is staying with a host family in St. Joseph and working as a door-to-door salesperson in Maryville to learn traditional American values. She plans to return to Ukraine and use her new skills (hard work and proper communication) to open a leadership school.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Rep. Shields said a special legislative session is meeting in Jefferson City to consider an incentive package that aims to keep the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals in Missouri. She expects the House to finish its work by the end of today—bringing significant economic benefits to the state and St. Joseph.  St. Joseph Post
  • The Missouri Department of Conservation closed the shooting ranges at Pigeon Hill Conservation Area indefinitely after an investigation found unsafe range practices and firearm damage to signs that threatened public safety. The rest of the conservation area remains open and alternative ranges are available at Elam Bend Conservation Area.  St. Joseph Post
  • The Missouri Department of Conservation announced it will consider shutting down the shooting ranges at Pigeon Hill Conservation Area due to repeated firearm misuse — including vandalism of safety signs and an outhouse. The agency will boost public education on safe range use and may shift resources to the range at Riverbreaks Conservation Area.  KQ2

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mosaic Life Care announced it is the official health care provider for the Saint Joseph Goats and will supply physician coverage during home football games at the Civic Arena. The announcement was made on Monday via social media after the team's first home game on June 7.  KQ2
