- ➤ Despite heavy rain this weekend, the 7th annual Ales West Craft Beer Festival drew hundreds of craft beer lovers to Coleman Hawkins Park and raised about $10,000 for local nonprofits including Sisters of Solace & the YWCA. - ➤ Carol Vanscoy, known as Sparkle Plenty, celebrated her 80th birthday and the prom she never had this weekend in St. Joseph — her family organized a surprise party themed 'It's a Wonderful Life.' - ➤ Despite early morning rain, the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art held its annual art fair in Saint Joseph with 17 vendors inside and outside the building—showcasing art for sale, kids’ activities, and live music—supporting local artists. KQ2
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Next week, the Buchanan County Commission will spray Lake Contrary’s 320 acres using a helicopter to clear invasive weeds—an essential step before dredging begins. Western District Commissioner Ron Hook said dredging will take three years at an estimated cost between $6 and $8 million—and it will support local boating, fishing and flood protection. - ➤ Missouri Western State University announced today that it is reinstating the men's and women's track and field programs (after community support reversed an earlier plan to cut the teams).
