- ➤ The Ales West Beer Festival gets underway today at noon at Coleman Hawkins Park with home brewers, distilleries and wineries offering small beer samples and live music by Casey Brett. Organizer Billy Campbell said up to 50 vendors will join to raise funds for local charities—supporting our community. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ Gregg Lynn, with Joe Town 107.5, hosted the 21st Radio-A-Thon on June 6—from 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.—at Sav-On Furniture Mart on North Belt Highway to support Camp Quality. KQ2
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The St. Joseph Fire Department responded to a multi-trailer fire near S. 36th Street and Pickett Road at about 4:00 a.m. Friday – crews contained the flames, closed the area for around an hour, and no injuries were reported. KQ2
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The St. Joseph Safety Council teaches teen drivers about the dangers of drunk driving with a simulated impaired-driving course at Missouri Western State University. The next session runs from June 23 to 27—giving teens real-time lessons in safe driving practices. KQ2
- ➤ Northwest Missouri State University reported that 5,502 students are enrolled this summer—1,910 undergraduates and 3,592 graduate students—even though overall numbers dropped slightly from last year. The school said most undergraduates and graduate students are taking courses online and the decline in graduate numbers is due to fewer international students. St. Joseph Post

- ➤ St. Joseph’s Animal Services has moved to the online system DocuPet to license pets and quickly return lost animals to their owners—residents must upload proof of vaccination and a spay/neuter certificate when registering their cats or dogs. KQ2
- ➤ District 3 Councilmember Andrew Trout said the city will raise sewer rates next year by 3% and then by another 3% as a necessary evil to meet federal phosphorus rules and rising costs for chemicals and equipment repairs — a Burns & McDonnell study showed the changes are needed to keep our river safe.
