COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Joseph Animal Shelter shortened lost pet hold times to 5 business days and manager Holly Bowie advises owners to call the shelter immediately with recent photos, microchip details, or current registration information—if contacted during business hours, the hold may be extended to give extra time for reunification.  KQ2
  • The Noyes tennis courts in St. Joseph will be closed for resurfacing beginning June 9—crews plan to take about a month to complete work on the courts, restroom building, and lights at the tennis and horseshoe courts. The Noyes football field and track will stay closed because the school district is renovating them.  KQ2
  • Friends of Krug Park will host Park-a-Palooza at Krug Park on June 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The free event features a petting zoon, food vendors, a balloon artist — and pony rides for $5 each.  KQ2

BUSINESS NEWS

  • East Hills Cleaners & Alterations reopened its original St. Joseph location after a fire damaged its Faraon Street store; business owner Tonya McCrea said community support—offered by the Chamber of Commerce, friends, and family—helped them recover. The store is back in operation and ready to serve customers.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • A former St. Joseph School District ROTC instructor sued the district claiming discrimination after he was forced to resign when his need for restroom breaks for prostate cancer surgery led to poor ratings. Master Sergeant Jamaal Anderson also accused the district of racial discrimination and retaliation after Lafayette students wrapped his car in paper with derogatory remarks—officials said they will not comment on the personnel matter.  KQ2

SPORTS NEWS

  • St. Joseph's Noah Cameron pitched six scoreless innings for the Royals against the Cardinals, becoming the second pitcher (since Fernando Valenzuela in 1981) to allow one run or fewer in each of his first five MLB starts. The Royals lost 6-5 in 10 innings at Busch Stadium and will complete their doubleheader tonight.  St. Joseph Post
  • The Sporting KC Summer Soccer Camp ended on June 5th in St. Joseph as it completed its second annual session for kids ages 5 to 14—offering training activities that introduced beginners to soccer and helped experienced players sharpen their skills. The camp also provided coaches with opportunities to learn new techniques.  KQ2
