COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A community member donated free tickets for the Mustangs game on Saturday—initially 500 were offered and more were added when social media interest surged; Mustangs General Manager Ky Turner said the gift is meant to inspire further acts of kindness in our community.  St. Joseph Post
  • On Thursday, Rotary Club members met in St. Joseph with the Shoes for Orphan Souls caravan and dropped off thousands of pairs of donated shoes for children in need. They will challenge the entire community next year to donate a pair to celebrate the program's 25th anniversary + expand local support.  KQ2

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The St. Joseph Chamber of Commerce announced a new Young Professionals Program for local professionals aged 20 to 40 to boost the long-term vitality of the business community. The Chamber will host four events from July through December — starting with a free networking event at Parkway Distillery on July 16 where the first 20 attendees get a complimentary drink — to help participants build connections.  KQ2

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Juneteenth Planning Committee will hold a production of Our Town at Missouri Theater, while officials report that a flood watch is in effect from Tuesday morning through Wednesday morning for parts of Kansas and Missouri due to heavy rains that may flood low-lying areas.  KQ2
  • KQ2 anchor Courtney Rowe, now Miss Kansas City, will compete at the 94th Miss Missouri pageant next week. She will perform in the talent round and use her interview to promote her social impact initiative—The Purple Project, which raises awareness and saves lives.  KQ2
  • Former KFEQ Ag Director Tom Brand released his new book 'Welts on Your Butt a Calf Could Suck: Reflections on Faith, Family and a Farm Kids' Life,' which shares humorous and heartfelt stories from his time on the farm — offering readers a glimpse into his personal journey. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the City Council held a work session where engineers from Burns and McDonnell explained a planned 3% sewer rate rise to cover the wastewater treatment and collection system — a move driven by regulatory needs and inflation. Some residents feel the increase might hurt the community — and the proposal will be read at the next meeting on June 9th.  KQ2
