ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday, a multi-vehicle crash on MO 6 three miles east of St Joseph killed a 49 year old woman from Clarksdale when her Lincoln crossed the center line and struck vehicles driven by locals—passengers received treatment for minor and moderate injuries.  KQ2

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A new store named '$10 Shoes N' Boots' opened on the south side to offer brand new discount shoes for families facing high living costs. The family-run business at 6948 King Hill Ave is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. — owner Laura Munsell said the effort is meant to ease the cost of basic needs.  KQ2

CRIME NEWS

  • David Lau, the Central activities director, settled his Florida case by having his resisting arrest charge dropped and accepting a second-degree misdemeanor for breaching the peace with six months probation - a security video shows he turned around and made contact with a deputy outside an entertainment area nearly a year after his arrest.  KQ2

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Local farmer Reid Atha of Atha Brothers AG faces rising fertilizer costs from tariff increases and a moderate drought that leads to replanting issues—he remains hopeful that these challenges will cause short-term loss for a long-term gain.  KQ2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • St. Joseph is boosting workforce development with new programs at the Houlne Center for Convergent Technology + expansion projects at Hillyard Technical Center and UMKC schools. Mayor John Josendale said these efforts aim to train local residents in diverse fields and help keep talent working in the community.  St. Joseph Post
  • Blake Templeton became the newest honorary officer for the Saint Joseph Police Department after completing the Joint Citizen's Law Enforcement Academy. Born with cerebral palsy, he achieved his lifelong dream to serve and was awarded an honorary badge plus his recent graduation from Mid-Buchanan was also celebrated by his family and fellow officers.  KQ2
  • Corby Pond is getting new restrooms, a picnic shelter, and a pedestrian crosswalk after delays from a shortage of roofing material that kept the restroom building unfinished as planned in April—officials said work today may show that the needed material is arriving. The project began in fall 2024 and is still underway.  KQ2
