- ➤ Today, the Rolling Hills Library invites the public to add names to its new building in St. Joseph — a tornado watch remains in effect until 9 PM CDT for parts of Missouri and Kansas. KQ2
- ➤ The National Short Takeoff and Landing event came to Saint Joseph over the weekend and local aviation leader Lute Atieh, co-chair of the Sound of Speed Airshow, said the event was meant to inspire young people to explore aviation careers without a college degree—pilot openings are growing as many pilots retire. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Buchanan County Route 6 is closed from Route W to Hurlingen Road due to a vehicle crash—MoDOT and Highway Patrol crews expect to reopen the road in several hours as drivers use alternate routes. KQ2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of St. Joseph and the YMCA have agreed on a cost-share plan to build a new indoor aquatic center at the YMCA headquarters at 3601 North Village Drive—$7 million from the city and $8 million to be raised by the YMCA. The City Council gave preliminary approval, and the pool will be open to the public with daily admission of no more than $8 and public transportation once plans are finalized. St. Joseph Post
- ➤ Missouri State Highway Patrol is increasing patrols for Memorial Day Weekend to help prevent crashes and boating accidents after last year saw 1,046 crashes with 486 injuries, 10 deaths, 7 boating accidents, 7 injuries, and impaired driving incidents. The agency will closely monitor drivers and boaters and urges anyone needing help to call (800)525-5555 or dial (55). KQ2
- ➤ Crews from Herzog Contracting Corp.—working on an overlay project on Northwest Parkway from Corby Pond to Karnes Road—will start work tomorrow as part of the city's street maintenance. The road will remain open on Wednesday and Thursday for milling work but will be closed on Friday for an asphalt overlay expected to finish that day. KQ2
- ➤ State Rep. Bill Falkner said House leaders hurt the session by skipping a vote on a $513 million capital improvement bill that would fund projects like the new UMKC dental school and upgrades at the Chiefs Training Camp—he noted that removing sick leave from the minimum wage law was meant to save jobs.
