Good morning, Saint Joseph. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 11th of May.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Joseph will host a new aviation event called STOL at Rosecrans Memorial Airport on May 16 and 17, where pilots will show how planes can take off and land in a very short distance (Short Takeoff and Landing). Rosecrans Airport Manager Julius Rice said the event will offer a close view of the action and a festival feel that shows the city's aviation pride.  KQ2
  • Second Harvest and the National Association of Letter Carriers collected yellow bags filled with non-perishable food donated by St. Joseph residents—despite lower donations than in previous years, the groups will ship the items to help those in need.  KQ2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The local EAA flight chapter continues offering free Young Eagles Flight experiences for kids learning about flying at Rosecrans Memorial Airport. More than 20 children took their first ride and were enrolled as new EAA members with free access codes (Young Eagles Coordinator Marcus Tyrrell said his own first flight inspired his excitement).  KQ2
  • Central High School’s Scholar Bowl team won the Class 6 State Championship on May 10 when they beat Lindbergh 390 to 380 — they were welcomed home by classmates and supporters that evening.  KQ2
