Local business Butchart's Flowers & Greenhouse, which has served the community for 115 years, showed its thanks to teachers and nurses last week by offering a free flower bar, and its president Michelle Leimbach—once a substitute teacher—has grown its online presence.

The shop will offer Mother's Day bouquets starting at $10 and will be open today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for late pickups.

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe said that during the first four weeks of Operation Relentless Pursuit 148 fugitives with outstanding felony warrants were arrested across 37 counties including Buchanan, Clay and Platte—officials added charges ranged from rape to kidnapping, voluntary manslaughter and sex trafficking.

Today the Albrecht Kemper Museum of Art hosts its Mother’s Day Brunch with savory and sweet crepes and a paper flower making activity—tickets cost $35.

The museum will open a free exhibit on Friday featuring Rachelle Gardner-Roe’s Our Very Nature and will hold a Father’s Day Whisky Tasting and Hog Roast on June 21 that costs $50.

St. Joseph’s Downtown Association announced that the Sounds of Summer Concert Series will return for the 2025 season, starting May 16 at 6:30 p.m. at Coleman Hawkins Park.

The free concerts will run until 9:30 p.m.—they will feature live music and food vendors.

Buchanan County’s 4-H program in St. Joseph is growing and gives local youth hands-on learning in welding, gardening, and public speaking—program organizers report that thousands now participate and some will travel to Jefferson City for special activities.

Central High School assistant principal Shawn Gilliland was named Northwest Missouri Assistant Principal of the Year by the Missouri Association of Secondary School Principals on Thursday afternoon — an honor that recognizes her over 20 years of service including 21 years as a math teacher; she joined Central in 2001.

Starting on May 14, residents will use a new entrance at 3405 S.

Belt Highway to drop off items at the St. Joseph Recycling Center. Drivers will now be guided down the center aisle between buildings—using signs and traffic cones for help—and the change will stay permanent to allow for new Animal Shelter construction.

Advanced Care of St. Joseph hosted a heartfelt celebration for the mothers in its care with music, sweet treats, and surprise visits arranged by its Activity Director.

The event helped residents and staff connect as they looked forward to honoring mothers on May 11th—fostering cherished moments before the full Mother's Day festivities.

The Mid-Buchanan girls soccer team beat Benton 3-0 Friday to improve their record to 9-11.

They will play at Faith Christian Academy on Monday, May 12th at 5 p.m.—Benton will play at East Kansas City at 4:30 p.m.
